1. Please describe your occupation and education.

   I am the Lobbying Director for the N.C. Department of the Secretary of State.  Our Department regulates lobbyists, their principals, and solicitors.  The Lobbying Compliance Division administers a portion of the Lobbying Act, Chapter 120C of the North Carolina General Statutes.  I earned a BA in History and a law degree from Wake Forest University.

2. Why are you running for the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School Board?

To ensure that the education students receive prepares them to be critical thinkers, to participate and thrive in the global economy;

To eliminate the achievement gap;

To eliminate disparate discipline; and

To ensure that the school system meets and addresses the needs of every child.

3.  What in your past experience qualifies you to serve on the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School Board?

I serve on the School Improvement Team at Chapel Hill High School.  My stints on OWASA and Carrboro town boards gave me experience with long term capital planning.  I voted for the Schools Adequate Public Facilities Ordinance that directly ties residential development with student school seats.

4.   What would be your top priority (or priorities) and can you give specific ideas on how you plan to address them?

My top priority is to eliminate the achievement gap by supporting policies that actively engage students and reward teachers and administrators who have high expectations for all students.  Studies indicate that instructors who consistently hold high expectations of their students are the most effective in eliminating the gap.
